HR 7725 (Introduced)In March 2024, Rep. Greg Murphy, a North Carolina Republican, introduced a bill that would bar medical schools that provide diversity, equity, and inclusion programs from receiving federal funds. The bill would cut funds to schools that “force students or faculty to adopt specific beliefs, discriminate based on race or ethnicity, or have diversity, equity, and inclusion offices or any functional equivalent.” It would require accrediting agencies to make sure their standards don’t promote those practices, but would allow instruction on health issues related to race. The bill was assigned to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
